What’s happening in 2nd grade

with Mrs. Groose?

October 16-20



Religion- This week we will continue to talk about Baptism. We will also talk about Confirmation.

Reading -We will be reading the story Hedgehog Bakes a Cake p.226. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.

Spelling- We are on unit 10. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.

Social Studies We will start learning about resources.

English- This week we will continue learning about nouns and pronouns.

Science We will learn about habitats and food chains.

Math This week we will work on counting patterns.

What’s happening in 2nd grade
with Mrs. Groose?
October 9-13

Religion- This week we have mass. If your child has a mass part please have them sit by me with their dad. Mass parts came home a few weeks ago.
Reading -We will be reading the story Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly a Plane p. 194. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.
Spelling- We are on unit 9. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.
Social Studies On Monday we will learn about Columbus. Then we will finish up learning about maps and direction. They will have a test on Friday.
English- This week we will start learning about nouns.
Science We will review for the chapter test on Monday and the test will be on Tuesday.
Math This week we will work on rounding and even/odd numbers.

What’s happening in 2nd grade

October 2-6



Religion- This week we will be learning about the sacraments. We will focus on Baptism. A sheet is going home today. It is due Friday. It is about their Baptisms. They can send in pictures too.

Reading -We will be reading the story Helping Out p.172. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.

Spelling- We are on unit 8. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.

Social Studies This week we will continue learning about maps.

English- Their personal narratives are hanging in the hallway. We have stated our spider stories and should finish them up this week.

Science We will learn about butterfly life cycles and how animals stay safe.

Math This week we will continue learning place value.

What’s happening in 2nd grade

with Mrs. Groose?

September 25-29



Religion- This week we will be learning about the Holy Spirit. I will also start testing them on their prayers this week.

Reading -We will be reading the story The Enormous Turnip p. 152. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.

Spelling- We are on unit 7. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.

Social Studies The kids were very excited last week because we have started getting our Flat Stanley's back. This week we will continue learning about different land forms. We will also start learning about the seasons and doing activities to go with Fall.

English- They will type their personal narratives this week. Then we will start another story about being turned into a spider.

Science We will learn about animal life cycles.

Math This week start learning place value.

September 18-22



Religion- They did awesome at mass last week! This week we will be learning about the Blessed Trinity. We will learn how Jesus could do things that only God could do.

Reading -We will be reading the story Wilson Sat Alone p. 124. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.

Spelling- We are on unit 5. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.

Social Studies We will learn about map grids and different landforms. Don't forget to send your Flat Stanley.

English- We will start personal narratives.

Science We will continue learning about different types of animals.

September 11-15



Religion- We have mass this week so we will be going over to church to practice. Please keep practicing with them at home also.

Reading -We will be reading the story Days with Frog and Toad p. 100. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.

Spelling- We are on unit 4. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.

Social Studies We learn about location. Don't forget to send your Flat Stanley.

English- We have a test over unit 1 on Tuesday. They will bring their books home on Monday. Pages 52-61 are review pages. Then we will start learning about personal narratives.

Science We will start learning about different types of animals.

Math This week I will be quizzing them on their doubles. We will also continue leaning subtraction and fact families.

September 4-8

Religion- They will finish talking about safe touching and how to keep themselves safe. Then we will start learning about the Holy Family. Mass parts were sent home last week for our mass September 14. Please practice at home. Thank you.
Reading -We will be reading the story Henry and Mudge Under the Yellow Moon p. 82. They will bring their books home on Thursday to read the story with you. We will have a test over the story on Friday.
Spelling- We are on unit 3. Spelling words are on the back of the newsletter. We will have a test on Friday. There is a great website to go with our spelling book, it is www.eduplace.com/kids.
Social Studies We will learn about the three branches of government and map keys.
English- We will be learning about commands and exclamations. We will also be reviewing for our test. The test will be next Tuesday.
Science We will continue learning about seeds.
Math They will be bringing flash cards home this week to practice. We will also be learning subtraction.
